Left side: finally wrote a second verse in full for Portland. The original demo just has "la la loo" for most of this.
Right side: working out the Dramatic Re-enactment solo bit for Open Mic. I knew I wanted to do something other than just a straight guitar solo, and I had had a couple of ideas—pure crowd noise simulation; a collage of bad poetry written and read by friends; genuine open mic field audio—but I went with this one largely because it's what I had time to pull off at the end of the month.
The album has not so much a blistering guitar solo as a pretty, clean one—I borrowed a very nice acoustic for some of the final tracking, and just had a really great time playing around with lead on the song, and so I kept it. In fact, the trend toward more acoustic sounds and less Big Rock became pretty solidified by the end of production; even though I like big, high-energy stuff, this solo better fit the overall tone of the album.
