EPIC NOMIC POST

Well, maybe not epic.  But big, anyway.  Moderately thorough.  It’s no skinny, sand-kicked weakling on Sunny Post Beach, that’s for damn sure.

Here is what I’m talking about: my Nomic post to Metafilter.  Don’t know what Nomic is?  Go read that and find out!  Do know what Nomic is?  Go read that and find out more!

The question in the back of my head: will this spawn a mefite-driven game of Nomic?  If so, will it be any good?  If so, will it last more than a month?  Damnable Nomic is fragile and ephemeral in proportion to it’s awesomeness, which is a pain in the ass when you consider just how awesome it is.

Eating a donut is the smartest thing I ever did.

Hey, do you remember how a while back I ate a big ol’ donut and a picture of it got picked up on the food blog Serious Eats?

Well that was cool and all, but now that photo has showed up in a blog from Wired.  Oh hell yes.

It got there via a thread I posted on Metafilter yesterday (with Neatorama as a stepping stone), linking to the excellent new size-ist blog Comically Large Things, run by Mefite jbickers.

And, just for the record, the donut photo wasn’t on the blog when I linked it.  It’s just that jbickers has tremendous taste, and started nabbing stuff mentioned in the mefi thread for use on the blog.  I’m as surprised as anyone.

Next up: cover of Time.

Mefi User Sites: omiewise rules

The greater Metafilter metropolitan area expands a bit more, with mefite omiewise‘s announcement of this cool bit of off-site commentary:

Mefi User Sites

omie is strolling through the listed homepages and ancillary sites of this or that mefite, complete with annotated writeup.  Very cool, and obviously after my own heart.  And the possibility of getting the treatment might be enough incentive to get me off my lazy ass and updating my various blogs again.

theinternetband.com – behind the music

Stunning. Weird. Fake? I don’t know. Whatever else it is, it wants to be The World’s Next Great Rock Band:

The Group Will Have 5 Lead Singing Capable Musicians+ Great Original Songs+ Great Obscure Cover Songs= The Worlds Greatest New Rock Band…………I Say Yeah! Yeah Yeah Yeahh……….I Got Fame……..Right Here…………If You Want It. The Beatles Had 4 Singers, I Want 5. Are You Worthy?

So if you’re a 19-23 year old singer you’d be stupid not to get on board ASAP. Because this dude has ideas. He has notions. And if this whole five-singer 19-23 year old rock group doesn’t work out, well:

Another Idea I Have Also Been Thinking About Is Forming A Band Of All Blind Singer/Musicians. There Would Only Be 5 Or 6 People In This One.

So don’t dilly-dally. And if you know Noel Gallagher, have him say hello, would you?

John Ralston’s “A Year In Comics”

So here’s a link to something I’m excited about. (This is new to me. Be gentle. See prior post.)

Artist, collaborator and spiritual bandmate John Ralston is going to draw a comic page every day for a year. John is a faboo artist (hey, buy some art!), and the prospect of watching him gut his way through a daily quota and build up his comics-drawing sensibilities over the course of a year is, to me, intensely exciting, and not a little inspiring. (I may take up a similar, though much father behind-the-curve project.)

John is a fellow Mefite, and is responsible for most of the fantastic art that appears in the Metafilter Compilation Album. (Which you should buy. Money goes to charity, music goes to your “awesome music I own” stack.)

Really, there’s more to be said about John, but I’d be here all day. So, yes. A Year In Comics, by John Ralston. Here’s that link again. Go. Read. Subscribe. Enjoy.
