Zen and the Art of Headline Disambiguation

One of my daily reads (along with MetaTalk and a handful of webcomics) is a faboo linguistics-centric group blog called Language Log. Great stuff from a few regulars and a few not-so-regulars.

For the last month or so, I’ve been reading slowly through the archives, moving steadily backward after consuming the (too few!) daily updates — I’m currently in mid-August 2005, so these archives should last me a good long time. And just now, I hit a nice little copy-editing snafu that Arnold Zwicky managed to catch. Glad someone is watching the headlines for me.

Abducted by Nothing

It’s been an odd week or so. Thanksgiving and all the to-do that comes with it. Switching off the novel and on to a bunch of other neglected and new projects. Treading a thin line with Brian that has led to a resolve to form a new band.

And I haven’t really put anything up here in that time. My bad.

If it is any consolation, I can tell you that, in the history of MetaTalk, the word a$$croft has been used exactly once. Such a brave, dignified hapax legomenon!
